Kate learnt Cuban salsa whilst living in
France in 2001, where she also taught her first class. In 2002 she moved
back to her home town in West Wales to continue teaching. Within a year, she
had established classes in Swansea and Cardiff, where she relocated. Since
then, she has learnt many salsa styles including LA, on On2 and other dance
forms including Lambada and ballet. However she remains true to her salsa
origins and her preferred style is Cuban. Kate specialises in teaching La
Rueda, a Cuban style group dance where participants follow signals to
synchronise their turn pattern and change partners simultaneously.
Kate’s teaching background stems from
extensive training in Gymnastics. By the age of 19 she had qualified has a
club coach and had produced Welsh national and regional champions. She also
spent three seasons at the week-long Lilleshall Summer Camp, learning and
training alongside the British Olympic coach and squad.
